History –

Bikaner’s history dates back to 1486 AD when Rao Jodhaji, founder of Jodhpur challenged his son to establish his kingdom. For the prince of Rao Bikaji, one of the five sons of Rao Jodhaji, the barren wilderness became his focus point and he transformed it into an impressive city. He accomplished his task with 100 cavalry horses and 500 soldiers and established his kingdom in 84 abandoned villages. When Bikaji died in 1504, his rule had extended to more than 300 such villages. It was all collectively transformed as a city named after Maharaja Bikaji as Bikaner.

Culture of Bikaner –

The city celebrates Bikaner Camel Festival with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is an annual festival dedicated to the ship of the desert – the camel. This celebration consists of camel races, best breed competitions, and more.
